Food = Mood
When you are feeling a little bit low do you ever stop to think that it might have something to do with the food you are eating? The next time you eat stodgy, processed foods that are high in sugar see how you feel a couple of hours later and even the next day.
When children go to birthday parties and eat lots of sweets and cakes you are shown very clearly when the crash comes. If you are not clear what I am saying, I mean the cries and screams that fill the house! Just because we, as adults, are not screaming doesn't mean we aren't on the inside.
These types of food are so low in minerals and nutrients they, in my eyes, are 'no-go' foods. Low levels of vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids can affect mental health, with some symptoms associated with particular nutritional deficiencies.
So the next time you are crying into a cup of hot chocolate and a tub of ice-cream think about how you can lift your mood by what you put in your mouth.
Here are 5 mood enhancing tips to put the smile back on your face.
- Take regular exercise & get fresh air to increase serotonin levels
- Drink your greens
- Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
- Make sure your vitamin D, B & magnesium levels are high enough these all have an impact on your mood
- Eat green leafy vegetables especially chard
