Spring Sportswear Fashion By Hip & Healthy

Over the last few years there’s been a gradual shift in the mindset of women the world over, who now lead more active, healthy and fashionable lives and want their wardrobes to follow suit. Once a place where baggy ex-boyfriends’ t-shirts and tracksuit bottoms were acceptable, the gym has become a hotspot not only as somewhere to break into a sweat, but also as a venerable catwalk for the latest and greatest sportswear. Women are now wearing fitness clothes that make them look and feel fantastic, as well as provide the high-performance fabric technology that they’ve come to expect. It’s even become commonplace to see workout wear worn on the street, as an affirmation that the wearer is fit, healthy and fashionable. As fashion designers continue to look to sportswear for inspiration, so too are sportswear companies looking at their couture relatives and taking note of forthcoming trends. Some fitness wear brands are even producing clothes on a seasonal basis to mirror the fashion week calendars. The “Prada of the Fitness Brands”, Lucas Hugh, has recently gained a cult-like following thanks to its inaugural catwalk show at New York Fashion Week last September. With all this to contend with, Hip & Healthy has whittled down its favourite sportswear trends this spring for a workout wardrobe that works as hard at the gym as the person wearing it. Wild, colourful patterns have covered the bodies of gym-bunnies across the nation for a few seasons now and the penchant for print isn’t going anywhere. Look around and the most popular ways of wearing a pattern is on a pair of leggings that are usually paired with a plain top that picks up a colour from the print. However, don’t feel the need to be demure. This is a trend that gives the wearer an excuse to go top-to-toe crazy with sportswear designers often creating matching sets of tops and bottoms for that extra pattern punch. Lucas Hugh Prism Shard Leggings £225 c70f 2.    Statement Pieces If the idea of wearing head-to-toe pattern is terrifying then invest in one stand-alone item. Rather like a statement necklace; a piece synonymous with lifting any outfit made up of basics and neutral colours, a bright or patterned tee or pair of leggings will instantly update the ordinary uniform of monochrome fitness wear. As mentioned above, it might be worth investing in a matching set of patterned tops and bottoms to chop and change with the basics this spring. H&M Sports Top £7.99 3.    Find an undiscovered label Punching individuality into a fitness wardrobe is difficult when everyone nowadays wants to be seen in the latest workout brands, which is why discovering a sportswear label that no-one else has heard of is immensely satisfying. Hit social media as one of the best resources for start-up fitness companies. while are always on hand for the latest offerings and labels there! A clever insert of sheer, mesh or contrast panelling ups the fashion credibility of any piece by adding a little intrigue to the design. Panelling also introduces a new element into sportswear that, if put in the right places, can be incredibly flattering. Think of a pale coloured top with darker panelled sides and the slimming effects are astonishing. The same goes for a pair of leggings. However, rather than just choosing contrast slimming coloured panels, mesh or sheer inserts flash a bit of skin giving a risqué and sexy element. Try Tully Lou for some great contrast panelling (soon to be stocked on the Hip & Healthy website!). Some sportswear brands print mantras on the inside of their clothes (stand-up, Lorna Jane) that inspire the wearer to move and provide continuous motivation for those lazy days. Zips will always update designs both on and off the catwalk, and carefully placed ones look sleek and stylish without being gaudy; HeyJo’s leggings are a great option.
