What's Foods Are In Season - August & September

Summer is a time of year when we should be boosting our bodies with bucket loads of what the season has to offer. Choose light foods and create dishes using everything from strawberries to cauliflower to garden peas to sweet corn. Try also to take some of summers bounty and flavour, and preserve it for the winter in the form of jams, relishes and frozen dishes - we have been doing this for centuries. As the summer begins to migrate into autumn, new ingredients come into the fold, each of which mean certain cookbooks and recipes should be revisited. Here are a few to try... ........................................................................................................... How to enjoy your apples... - In crumbles with aromatic fresh rosemary - In your morning green juices - In salads with walnuts ........................................................................................................... Think I am going to stuff them with goats cheese, chives and Sautéed courgette. Yum. How to enjoy your courgettes... -Deliciously raw and spiralized in the likes of my Puy Lentil & Pomegranate Salad -Juiced with other greens for breakfast - try my Mojito Green Cleanser Juice -Sautéed in coconut oil and tossed through gluten free pasta ........................................................................................................... beetCake_8694BLUEBERRIES Blueberries now grow prolifically in the South of England and blueberry sales have now overtaken those of raspberries. Try and buy UK grown blueberries if you can as those from further afield can travel for 3 weeks before being sold to the consumer 7 days later. How to enjoy your blueberries... -Delicious with apples in a pie - try using this gluten free pastry recipe. -Blended into a smoothie with beetroot, goji berries, chia seeds, almond milk and dates. -Sautéed into a coulis to drizzle over the likes of this Coconut Oil & Summer Berry Porridge recipe. -In my Courgette & Blueberry Muffins or my Blueberry Friands. ........................................................................................................... BFA_PeachButtnut_22NECTARINES & PEACHES Two of my favourite ingredients of the summer. I have been known to eat more than one (ok two) nectarines in one sitting. Though the season will be coming to an end in August, there is still time to make the most of these beauties in their prime. How to enjoy your nectarines and peaches... - Chopped and cooked with your porridge with fresh pieces sprinkled over the top with a dollop of coconut yoghurt and a sprinkling of bee pollen. - In a beautiful dessert like my Peach & Redcurrant Gallette - Blitzed into a green smoothie with cucumber, spinach, dates and water - In my Peach & Butternut Salad recipe from my second book Honestly Healthy For Life ...........................................................................................................  BLACKBERRIES Late summer is not complete for me without blackberries. Wandering down country lanes or even the parks in London and nipping them off their stalks and coming back with purple fingertips. How to enjoy your blackberries... - Make yourself a blackberry chia jam. All you need are chia seeds, water and your blackberries. Cook down the blackberries in some water and add the chia seeds so that they expand and make a juicy jam. - Sprinkle them over your Bircher muesli - Freeze them and blitz into your smoothies with banana 07fc15dc9073d511958efc1f3299cd03
