Homemade Coconut Oil & Mint Body Scrub
Now that Summer is ending, one way to keep our tan and skin looking smooth is to regularly use a body scrub. Celebrity make up artist and cruelty free cosmetics ambassador Justine Jenkins, tells us about one of her favourite DIY homemade body scrub recipes.
A lot of people don't exfoliate their skin once they have a tan thinking they'll rub it off, but exfoliating a couple of times a week is one of the best ways to maintain your tan, keep that summer glow, prevent premature ageing and stopping your skin looking dry. I love one of Cate Blanchett's favourite recipes which is:
1/2 cup of coarse salt (try different salts to find your favourite - I like Himalayan rock salt crystals)
1/4 of a cup of coconut oil (warm the coconut oil on a radiator or under hot water if its hard)
1 large handful of mint leaves
Zest of 1 lemon
Mix together the warmed coconut oil and salt in a bowl.
Place the mint leaves and lemon zest in a food processor and blend until combined and very finely chopped. Add the mint and lemon zest to the coconut oil and salt and stir everything together to form your reviving body scrub. You can use immediately then store this in the fridge for a couple of weeks.
There are so many fantastic benefits to using this scrub:
- its cost effective
- smells delicious
- lemons have cleansing and anti bacterial properties
- mint has a high content of salicylic acid which cleanses your pores
- salt removes toxins
- scrubbing improves circulation
- coconut oil is anti ageing and a perfect skin softener
Get mixing and that tan will look good as new!
