Inspiring Women: Lorna Jane Interviewed by Natasha

  We thought it was a good idea to interview inspiring women, so I chose Lorna Jane as she really shares the Honestly Healthy ethos. Here is the result of this fun and interesting interview, I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed doing it.
  1. What was your inspiration behind setting up your brand?
Lorna Jane was born while I was working part time as an aerobics instructor and started making my own leotards. I was tired of the dull and boring options available for women at the time and wanted to design activewear that makes women look and feel amazing, and would actually inspire them to be MORE active! Even after 25 years, I'm still thrilled to see women wearing Lorna Jane and hope that my activewear and brand ethos inspires them to live a more Active Life.
  1. Tell me more about your ethos of Move Nourish Believe.
Active Living is the way that I live my life every day and Move Nourish Believe is the daily practise that makes being fit and healthy so easy to achieve. Simply MOVE your body every day, NOURISH from the inside out with real foods and BELIEVE anything is possible if you are willing to work hard. Trust me, when you make Active Living a priority in life, you'll look, think and feel better than ever before, and then there is no turning back!
  1. What is your biggest struggle in setting up a business and what is the best advice you can give someone that is setting up a company?
The biggest challenge in my business (and in most businesses, I think), would have to be finding the right people to help make your business the success you know it can be. It can be hard to find like-minded people who share your passion for what you are trying to achieve and are willing to put their heart into everything they do.  At Lorna Jane, I look for people who share my love of all things Active Living, who want to Move Nourish and Believe every day and of course want to share this amazing way of life with as many women as possible (oh, and they have to LOVE activewear!). My advice for anyone looking to start their own company would be to channel your passion! Find that ‘something’ you can’t stop thinking about and then be honest with yourself about whether it will make a great business. Be realistic about whether you have a unique offering in your chosen field, be honest with yourself about timing, location and set-up costs - set realistic goals, start slowly, work hard and believe in your ability to improve and get closer to your dream every day.
  1. How do you integrate the philosophy into your daily life?
Active Living is my personal life philosophy and I cannot imagine living my life any other way! I make moving my body a non negotiable part of my day, whether it’s a walk with my dog Roger, a boot camp session with friends or simply taking 30 minutes to stretch on my yoga mat. I choose to eat real, whole foods, which nourish my body and give me the energy to perform at my very best every day and I choose to adopt a positive mindset and believe in my ability to achieve my dreams.   1. What is your ideal idea of a cheat day?
I don't believe in dieting but instead prefer to focus on fueling my body with REAL foods that give me the energy I need to be at my best! ‘Cheat days’ aren’t really part of my vocab as I believe in moderation, eating nutritious foods  and having a little bit of the things I love every day.
  1. What is your normal day of food?
I try to mix it up and believe that variety is the key to getting maximum nutrition - but here is what I ate yesterday: On rising: Morning tonic (apple cider vinegar, juice of half a lemon, a pinch of cayenne pepper and warm water) Breakfast: Overnight oats with passion fruit and coconut Lunch: chicken and roast vegetable salad Mid afternoon: Green smoothie or protein shake Dinner: Salmon (pan fried in coconut oil) with kale salad and vegetables Dessert: Either some natural yoghurt and berries or one of my homemade cacao treats
  1. What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
I am without a doubt a morning person, and use the early hours to get my head in the game for the rest of my day.  When my alarm goes off (usually around 5:30am), I hit my yoga mat for some stretching and 5 – 10 minutes of meditation to set my intentions for the day. I then enjoy my morning tonic and pull on my activewear (which I ALWAYS lay out the night before) and kick off my daily workout.
  1. What practice can you not live without and why?
It’s hard to pick just one, as I have a number of daily rituals which allow me to perform at my very best. But when push comes to shove, it would have to be my morning workout – I just don’t feel myself until I’ve moved my body!
  1. What is the one recipe your family and friends always ask for more of?

  1. What is the best advice you can give someone trying to start a healthy lifestyle?
START NOW! It is never too late to start living a healthier, more energetic lifestyle. To get the ball rolling, start by changing just 1 or 2 things in your daily routine, like swapping your morning toast for a smoothie or doing some stretches while you watch TV. As you start feeling the benefits (and I promise you will), keep adding changes here and there and before you know it, you’ll have rid yourself of a whole heap of bad habits and replaced them with some healthier ones instead.
