How to combat depression on the most depressing day of the year

Blue Monday is known to be the most depressing day of the year and we have teamed up with Red Magazine to try and flip it on it's head to create #redmonday

How do we combat depression on this day? Red magazine are working with Headspace an App that helps you take 10 minutes out of your day to get some head space to meditate. You might have heard that meditation boosts mood and can reduce your chance of feeling depressed as it lowers stress and increases mental focus.

The great thing about meditation is that you don't have to know what you are doing and you don't have to be an expert. The idea behind meditating is that you are clearing the mind. If you want to try this simple technique you can or you can download the free app and be guided.

Sit or lie down in a comfy position. 

Breathe in an out of your nose. 

Concentrate on only the breath.

For 10 breaths just breathe in for 4 and breathe out for 4. 

Then just concentrate on the breath coming out of your nose brushing your top lip. 

If your mind starts to wonder as soon as you realise just bring your concentration back to your breath. It will get easier!
