What's really in Starbucks coconut milk?
I love the fact that larger chains are embracing the healthier alternatives as it becomes easier for people to be healthy all the time not just at home, but one of my biggest pet hates is companies not being transparent about what they are selling in their marketing campaigns. The very reason i called my brand Honestly Healthy is because i wanted people to know that they were getting ‘honestly’ healthy food rather than thinking it was healthy and lots of hidden ingredients in there.
The newest product on my radar is Starbucks. They have launched their new soya and dairy free milk alternative ‘coconut milk’ in the US but what is really in their coconut milk?
84,000 of their customers requested to have an alternative to dairy and soy on mystarbuckidea.com so they have delivered a coconut milk. On the 17th February they are launching it in their US stores and am sure will come to the UK shortly.
However the problem is…. Coconut milk should have the following ingredients...
Starbuck coconut milk has the following ingredients…
Water, coconut cream, cane sugar, tricalcium phosphate, coconut water concentrate, natural flavors, sea salt, carrageenan, gellan gum, corn dextrin, xanthan gum, guar gum, vitamin A palmitate, vitamin d2.
I love drinking and cooking with coconut milk its a fantastic dairy free alternative so just watch out for the hidden nasties out there. Here are some of the brands that I personally use that are ‘honestly’ healthy that you can get at most health food stores and supermarkets. Planet organic, wholefoods. To let you know Alpro contains sugar in their milks unless stated unsweetened.
