“It’s time to get people cooking vegetarian food as a family – even the dads!”
Natasha Corrett is one of the UK’s top vegetarian chefs, renowned for making healthy food that looks and tastes amazing. Founding Honestly Healthy in 2010, as a way to inspire and educate a healthy way of living, she shows being healthy doesn’t have to be boring.
Having authored four best-selling cookbooks in the last five years, her first two with nutritional therapist Vicki Edgson who created the principles of Honestly Healthy, her latest book – “Honestly Healthy in a Hurry” released in May 2016 – helps busy people find time to cook from scratch, by prepping and planning meals in advance. She’s also a huge advocate of “no waste cooking”.
“I’m a cook by trade and a self-trained chef – my passion for food has never faltered,” she says. “With Honestly Healthy I’ve loved being able to show how people can improve their diets and well-being through what they choose to put into their body. Food is fuel, after all. You only get out what you put in so it’s important to make the right choices.”
Natasha’s passion for cooking started in her teens after being introduced to the business by her father and spending her summer holidays in the kitchens of Le Boudin Blanc. After struggling with yo-yo diets, up and down weight gain, feeling tired, unwell and suffering from digestive issues from training in the kitchen, Natasha turned to her nutritional therapist godmother, Vicki Edgson, who armed her with a wealth of nutritional advice.
A completely new lifestyle approach led to Natasha organising health and wellness retreats. When one of the chefs didn’t show, Natasha had to cook and feed her guest’s nutritious meals. Following this retreat Honestly Healthy came to life in 2010 in her own kitchen.
Tash cooked over 50 nutritionally balanced meals a day and personally delivered them to offices and homes around London. The company grew organically and through word of mouth, she was invited to present her food to Selfridges to launch the brand. Thousands have now followed her lead, including celebrity fans Victoria Beckham, Robbie Williams, Lily Allen, Fearne Cotton, Millie Mackintosh and Jessie Ware.
Her love and knowledge of cooking has led to the Honestly Healthy spin off Chop Healthy, run by her husband Simon Bateman, and it’s clear she’s on a mission to get the UK cooking more vegetarian food from scratch and not wasting seasonal produce.
“I want to teach as many people as I can to cook,” Natasha says. “I’ve spent years learning and educating people on short cuts to delicious meals and not wasting a load of produce laying around in the family fridge is what I’m all about. It’s time to get all the family back in the kitchen cooking from scratch.”
She’s also provides clients private cookery tuition – both to groups and solo people. “It’s all about spreading what I’ve learnt over the years,” she adds. “I’ve stayed true to myself and learnt a lot about what works for me – but we are all different.
